What to do if your administration wants to add one more thing to your plate?

As teachers we are asked to play so many roles (teacher, nurse, counselor, and etc.) and take on so many responsibilities (yard duty, grading, teaching, and etc.)

So when the administration decides to add one more thing to our plate, how can they be surprised if we push back. 

Now don’t get me wrong, there are many great ideas that are worth incorporating into our classroom but there is a time and place for everything. 

How can they expect us to have students collaborate when we are having trouble keeping them focused. 

How can they expect us to have students debate when we are doing everything we can just to have students be respectful toward each other. 

So what do we do when a new idea is forced upon us.  

The answer is:

“Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.”

It sounds kinda cryptic but it is the best answer I have.
