What Does It Take To Be A Good Teacher

Time....

Of course it takes more than time, but just like everything worth while in life it will take time to become the teacher that you want to be.  

How much time?

That is a hard question to answer.  For me it took 7 years.  7 years to finally fell comfortable in the classroom.  That may seem like a long time and when you are in the middle of those years, it is a very long time.  But now that I have been teaching for 20 years and most likely teaching for another 15.  I can say it was well worth it. 

Fore you it may just take just a couple of years but what every the number is keep in mind that you are going to fail several times.  You are going to fail at lesson planning, you will fail at connecting with students, and you will have lessons that flop like you couldn't believe.  

But I am going to say this twice because it is so important.  It is okay to fail.  It is okay to fail.  

One of the great things about teaching is that we have built in restarts.  Every time you come back from a break that is a natural restart.  Each semester is a natural restart.  Every new school year is the perfect restart when you can try new things and redesign your classroom.
