Time for Reflection

Jun 03, 2023

Every time I come to the end of the school year I get sentimental.  I think about all the good and bad things that took place during the school year and I start to contemplate what things I want to do the same and what things I want to change for next year.

It is hard to do sometimes because by the time I get to the end of the year I find myself emotionally and physically spent and the last thing I want to do is put any more thought into the school year.

I am sure you know what I am talking about.  It usually takes a good week or two before my shoulders loosen up and start to feel caught up on my sleep. This summer is going to be no different.   I am teaching summer school but that is so much more relaxed then the regular school year.

So what things transpired this year that are worth noting?

As I ponder that question I realize that my classroom life was not out of the ordinary.  Some lessons worked and some did not.  Some students won over my heart and some students I am glad are moving on to the High School.

The things that were out of the normal was that I took on a bigger role in the discipline at my school as well as creating a classroom management program that I am starting to promote.

I will go into more details about both of those in later blogs but for now let me just say, both of those have been hard work as well as very rewarding.

As I start thinking about next year I am going to continue what I have been doing inside the classroom and outside the classroom.

We should all take a moment to reflect on the year and start to think a little about next because next year will be here sooner than we expect.  That does not mean you should be working all summer.  Enjoy your summer and recharge your batteries so that when next year starts you are fully charged and ready to go.

Have a wonderful summer everyone.
