Summer School

Here it is the middle of June and I am still at my school.  Now don't feel sorry for me because I choose to be here.  I decided to work Summer School and to be honest, I am kinda having a a good time.  Don't tell nobody.  

Do you remember those movies from the 80's about Summer School and you had all the trouble makers and a teacher who was forced to work.  Yeah I remember those and I am glad that is not how it is.

I have taught summer school for over 10 years now and usually I work at the High School and help students make up credits of a class they failed.  But last summer and this summer I am working at my Middle School and implementing (Extended Learning Opportunity).  Other words, the middle school is a place where our students can hang out during the summer and we do a mixture of Academic and Enrichment activities.  

What I really am enjoying is my enrichment activity.  I have a class of about 15 and I split them into two groups.  Once group works on learning to play chess and the other group is trying to complete and escape room activity.  Then after 40 minutes the groups switch.  

I love Chess but it is the escape room activity the kids are really enjoying.  This is the first time I am doing this activity and I am using a kit from Breakout Edu.  So far it has not disappointed.  

I still have 1 month more to go before Summer School is over and then I can enjoy my 2 week vacation and I will be trying to escape out of California, but until then I hope my Summer School enjoyment continues.
