One of My Favorite Lessons

May 18, 2024

When I lesson plan there are some types of lessons that I do for every unit.

There is almost a day of two of "Ed Puzzles" in which student individually watch videos and answer questions.  I usually do this a day before our notes so that when my students are taking notes we can have some good discussions about we are learning.  I use this as a way to front load the material.

There is always a component of direction instruction in which I have my students take notes.  To make my notes more exciting I insert something called the "Big Thinking Questions" which I then connect to what we are learning that day.

Then there is the day before the test.  I like to do some sort of review and my go to lesson is a day playing Blooket.  If you don't know what Blooket is, imagine Kahoot but more interactive.  If you don't know what Kahoot is imagine Jeopardy but more fun.

Then there is test day.  My test usually take about 25 minutes from the time they grab their Chromebooks, log on, and complete the test.

Sprinkled among those standard lessons I have a variety of activities in which I use to reinforce what they are learning.

The one new thing I am trying this year is a Breakout Edu.  Imagine a reverse escape room where instead of the goal being trying to escape the room, you are solving riddles to try to break into a box.
