How to Teach Math Like Pro!

Dec 28, 2024

27 Years ago I got my Bachelors of Arts in Sociology and Political Science.

I then started to look for a job to make lots of money.  But I soon realized that there is not much you can do with a Sociology and a Political Science  degree.  I mean I could of got a variety of jobs but starting pay was actually less then I was making at my Geico Auto Insurance job.

So I decided to stay at Geico until the seas parted and my path was clear.

So for the next several years I worked in the service department, in my cubicle,  answering phone calls and helping people with their car insurance.

"Thank you for calling Geico.  My name is Gabriel.  How may I help you?".  I must have said those words 1000's of times.

Eventually with the support and encouragement of my wife I went back to school and got my teaching credential.  The only question left was "What am I going to teach?"

I have always heard that math teachers are the most in demand so I took the Math Proficiency Test and I failed the Math Proficiency Test.

2nd time is the charm.

I failed it a second time.

If at first you don't succeed try and try again.

I failed it the third time.

It was after my 3rd defeat that I decided to take the Social Studies test and I passed it.

So I became a Social Studies Teacher.

21 Years later I am still at it.  No to be totally honest I have only taught one year of Math (we will save that story for another time) but what I realized after doing this for some time is that teaching is teaching no matter what subject you instruct.

There are differences but skills and strategies you acquire are transferable from one subject to another.

With that said.  I decided to create a video of how I would teach Math if giving the opportunity.
