How To Keep Your Class Running Smoothly

Has this ever happened to you?

You spend all night creating the perfect lesson and the day of your class, everything is running just as you planned.  Students are working, they are engaged, and you are hoping your principal walks into see the magic happening. 

Then out of no where there are two students in the back who start a verbal altercation.  As you go back there to deal with it you see a paper airplane fly by your head.  As you turn around you see a couple of students on their cell phones.  

What is going on?  How can it go from magic to disfunction so quickly?

The answer may be TRANSITIONS.

So let us clarify what a transition is.  When we go from one part of the activity to another part of or a brand new activity that is a transition.  This is often when we lose some of our students.  

So how do you keep your class running smoothly?

The secret is to learn how to effectively use transitions like a boss.
