How do you handle difficult students?

I have heard it so many times from other teachers about how excited they were for a new school year,  and how things were going to be different this year.  

They go into the school year expecting the best and hope for change.  

But as the saying goes, "Hope is not strategy".  

I can honestly say I know how they feel because I have said those exact same words many times.  

I had the best intentions but as soon as that one kid or a group of students started being disruptive in my class, all of my plans quickly went to the waist side.  

That reminds me of another quote.  This one is from Mike Tyson, "Everybody has a plan until they get hit".  

Today, I still go into every school year excited and optimistic but the difference is I have a plan on how to handle those disruptive students.
