Dealing with Tricky Behaviors: Become a Problem-Solving Pro
Mar 15, 2025
Have you ever noticed that sometimes the same kinds of tricky behaviors pop up, even when the people are different? It's like, one person stops a behavior, and then someone else starts doing it. Instead of being surprised, we can learn to be detectives and solve the mystery of these behaviors. Here are some tips:
- Be a Noticer: Pay close attention to what's happening. What actions are causing problems? Is it talking out of turn, being out of your seat, or something else?.
- Try Different Things: When a behavior happens, try different strategies to see what works. Maybe try ignoring it, maybe try reminding the person of the rules, or maybe try something else that works for you.
- Keep a Record: Make a mental note of what you tried and if it worked. You could even write it down. This way you can start building an "arsenal" of strategies.
- Separate the Behavior from the Person: Instead of thinking "Johnny is being bad," think "that behavior is something I can work with.". It’s the action you want to change, not the person.
- Practice, Practice, Practice: The more you practice, the better you’ll get at handling these tricky situations. You might even get so good you can prevent some of the tricky behaviors from happening in the first place!
Remember, tricky behaviors are like puzzles. With a little practice, you can become a puzzle-solving pro!
